Windows NT Server
Configuration tips: The following may assist you in creating a more stable environment for Windows NT Server.
Tuning:
Swap file settings should be 1.5 to 2.0 times the size of
installed RAM. In addition, set the initial and max sizes
to the same "fixed" size: Example - 1024 Meg of RAM
(1Gig). swap should be set to 1.5 - 2.0 Gig.
This will do 2 things:
1. Startup will be faster.
2. You won't incur fragmentation of
the swap file.
Get DiskKeeper.
Profile:
NEVER store ANYTHING within your personal profile.
Create a "Documents" directory off of the root, or
a hierarchy (C:\USER_NAME\Documents). Do the same for
"Music", "Pictures", etc. If your profile is
damaged, ALL DATA STORED WITHIN YOUR PROFILE MAY BE LOST!
Accounts:
Always create a backup Administrator account. Create
a password scheme that uses the workstation/server
name as part of the password. Example: change the
vowels to numbers A=8, E=3, I = 1, O=0, U=2, Y=4
So if the workstation name is workstation01: password =
